Greta Gerwig’s Barbie will hit the theatres in less than a month, and its soundtrack is shaping up to be amazing. Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice joined forces for one of the album’s most highly-anticipated tracks “Barbie World”, which shows them hanging out in their own version of Barbie Dreamhouse.

The duo’s latest collaboration interpolates the timeless hit “Barbie Girl” by Aqua, and the Danish Europop band, who have been fully credited as co-writers and performers. Minaj and Ice Spice put a hip-hop-infused twist on the original song while sticking to its infectious and catchy beat.

Having Nicki Minaj work on the Barbie soundtrack was a no-brainer since the rapper made the Barbie doll a significant part of her public persona and even refers to her fans as “Barbz”. Using the sample of “Barbie Girl” could’ve felt too cheesy, but Minaj felt they managed to do it in a way that made sense.

“This is the first time that someone had put this sample in a way that didn’t make me uncomfortable or gimmicky. I figured out that it needed to be a beat that would still give Barbie & Nicki,” Minaj told Buzzing Pop.

This marks the second collaboration between Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, following the success of their “Princess Diana” remix, which reached no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
