This month marked the ninth anniversary of Zayn Malik’s exit from One Direction, and he’s been reminiscing about the good old days. He recently looked back at the time he was a part of the chart-topping boy band and said they made some pretty amazing music together.

Malik embarked on his solo journey after leaving One Direction in 2015, but he hasn’t forgotten his roots. He opened up about his time with the band in an interview on a Stationhead stream and said he enjoys listening back to the band’s back catalog.

“I’ve been listening to a bit of One Direction music recently, reminiscing. Good times. We made some good music as a band. We were pretty good,” said Malik.

Malik joined One Direction in 2010, alongside Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, following their auditions for the British singing competition show The X Factor. They went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, but it all came crashing down when Malik left in 2015 and they officially went on hiatus one year later.

Malik is currently gearing up for the release of his fourth solo studio album Room Under the Stairs. It will hit the shelves on May 17, and he promoted its release with the lead single “What I Am”.
