The Smiths just revealed a previously unreleased demo for the song “I Know It’s Over.” The demo will be a part of the upcoming deluxe reissue of their 1986 album The Queen Is Dead. The song resembles the final version which made it to the original album, with slightly changed lyrics. Instead of “and as I climb into an empty bed,” Morrissey sings “and as I climb into an icy bed” on the demo. Also, instead of “I don’t know where else I can go,” the song contains the line “I don’t see what else I can do”.

You can hear the song below.

Deluxe reissue of The Queen Is Dead is set for release on October 20th, and will contain four discs. The first disc will have the original remastered album, while the second disc will have demos, B-Sides and additional takes of the songs. Besides I Know It’s Over,” fans will also be able to hear “Frankly, Mr. Shankly,” “Cemetry Gates,” and “Bigmouth Strikes Again demos, among others. The third disc will have The Smiths Live in Boston performance, while the disc four features the 2017 master in 96kHz / 24-bit PCM stereo.

“You cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve,” Morrissey said in a statement. “You progress only when you wonder if an abnormally scientific genius would approve – and this is the leap the Smiths took with The Queen Is Dead.”

The Queen Is Dead was the band’s third studio album and received universal acclaim upon its release. It was also a commercial hit in the UK, reaching number two spot on the charts. Many call it The Smiths best career album, while NME even as far as listing it as the greatest album of all time.
