After a long battle to gain creative control of her own music, Iggy Azalea is finally back in our lives with her new album In My Defense. She recently discussed this record with Billboard, and reflected on some of the defining moments of her career – including her hit single “Fancy”.

This pop-infused tune wasn’t exactly the song that put the Aussie rapper on the map since she gave us a couple of hits before it came out. “Fancy” did, however, become her first single to make it to no. 1 in the US, and it held that spot for seven consecutive weeks.

Five years after it came out, Azalea believes that her collaboration with Charli XCX actually owes its enormous success to its Clueless-themed music video.

“Without that video, I don’t even think I would have had a Top 40 song. I always really believed in the power of the visual — they drive a song nowadays. That’s how we consume everything, and it’s also another element of explanation for what your intention is,” said Azalea while discussing her signature hit with Billboard.
