PJ Harvey’s first studio album in seven years is hitting the shelves this summer, and we finally know what to expect once it drops. She teased the release of her tenth studio album by dropping the lead single “A Child’s Question, August”.

PJ Harvey’s next LP will be titled I Inside the Old Year Dying and it’s coming our way on July 7. She admitted it was a difficult album to make and it stems from the ideas dating back all the way to 2017 when she felt she lost her connection to music, but the final cut was written over just three weeks.

PJ Harvey’s creativity was finally reignited after a conversation with the Oscar-winning filmmaker Steve McQueen. He advised her to rediscover why she fell in love with words, images, and music in the first place, instead of focusing on writing an album.

“I think the album is about searching, looking — the intensity of first love, and seeking meaning. Not that there has to be a message, but the feeling I get from the record is one of love – it’s tinged with sadness and loss, but it’s loving,” she said in a statement.

“A Child’s Question, August” was released as the lead single from PJ Harvey’s next album, which will feature a total of 12 tracks.
