Muse’s Matt Bellamy has revealed that Ed Sheeran is inspiring the band to write new kinds of material.

If you had to take a guess at who Muse’s key influencers are, you’d probably lean more towards other great rock bands like Radiohead. Surprisingly, it is actually pop sensation Ed Sheeran who has been giving Bellamy ideas for new material. When asked in an interview what kind of things he would still like to explore when it comes to guitar playing, Bellamy’s answer revolved around the “Shape Of You” star’s looping work.

“I’ve been quite interested in what Ed Sheeran does with the looping systems. That’s something I’ve never really dabbled in, but I’d like to,” Bellamy told GuitarWorld.

“Especially now, with the access I have to synth sounds coming from the guitar. So I haven’t really begun yet, but at some point I like the idea of experimenting more with getting some looping sounds going and exploring that side of it.”

Muse are currently on their Simulation Theory World Tour.
