After years of speculation, it seems like The Mars Volta reunion is finally happening. The news was recently confirmed by the band’s vocalist and lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala during correspondence with fans on Twitter.

Although all the tweets have been since deleted, it is encouraging for the fans to know that something is happening.

After one fan tweeted: “I dream of you guys giving TMV a new chapter,” Bixler-Zavala responded with a pretty straight-forward tweet which said: “It’s happening.”

Bixler-Zavala followed this up with a more detailed response in which he hinted that the band is working on new music and suggested future live shows.

“What it’s not going to be is your ‘fav member lineup’ playing their ‘classic records’ in full etc,” – Bixler-Zavala wrote. “Maybe we’ll play old s**t, who knows how we feel. Just remember our past campaigns never relied on playing requests or going fully backwards… it’s new s**t, new people, left turns, tangent inconsistencies, mazapan dreams, and churro wishes. I will say this though, when ORL ( guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López) played me a grip of new s**t I f***ing cried. Like Claire Daines in Romeo & Juliet cried.”

Still, according to Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta reunion is currently in its early stages, and there is no definite date on when it could happen.

“It’s in its infancy right now,” he added. “No deadlines, no ball tripping, no drama.”

The Mars Volta disbanded in 2012 following the release of their sixth studio album Noctourniquet. Since then both Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López worked on several solo and band projects.
