Kanye West has recently opened up about his changing attitudes towards mental health issues.

The rapper is due to appear on the upcoming episode of David Letterman’s My Guest Needs No Introduction and the appearance will see him being very open about his experience with mental health struggles. West was diagnosed with bipolar in 2016 and is admirably open about his battle.

His advice to other sufferers is not to push yourself too hard. He compares the brain to any other muscle and warns others not to push those who are suffering either.

Pitchfork reported that West tells Letterman in the upcoming episode: “This is a sprained brain, like having a sprained ankle… And if someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not gonna push on him more.”

He also shared his most unpleasant experiences but also revealed that he is grateful he had to go through them so that he can help others. After recalling a troubling incident he had in the hospital, West said: “That’s something that I’m so happy I experienced myself so I can start by changing that moment. When you are in that state, you have to have someone you trust. It is cruel and primitive to do that.”

Kanye West’s appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction will air next month on Netflix.
