An Ode to “You’ve Got Time” – the TV Intro We Never Skipped

Netflix users rejoiced when this streaming service added skip intro button to its platform, but there’s at least once show that never made us use it. Orange Is the New Black gave us many amazing things, including the catchy theme song “You’ve Got Time,” that we enjoyed hearing over and over again.

Showrunner Jenji Kohan used to listen to Regina Spektor obsessively while writing the script for this Netflix smash hit, and she was her first pick for the theme song. The singer accepted Kohan’s offer and thought about the different states of mind people go through while in prison during her process of composing “You’ve Got Time”.

Orange Is the New Black came to an end after seven seasons, and listening to this song will never feel the same again. Regina Spektor marked this special occasion in a truly special way – by recording a harrowing chamber version of her signature song.

“What a special world Jenji created and invited us all into. Over the years it was a privilege to see the Orange Family grow and expand and experiment. Making a new interpretation of the song felt like a fitting way to say goodbye,” said Spektor in a press release.
