Thundercat is gearing up for the release of his new album It Is What It Is by releasing the LP’s third single, “Fair Chance.” The song, which features contributions from rappers Ty Dolla $ign and Lil B, is described as a tribute to the late rapper and his frequent collaborator Mac Miller.

The track is packed with emotional punches delivered by lines like “You’re not around/ So hard to get over it” and “Things will never be the same/ Everything so strange.” Hear it below.

“When he passed it shook the ground for the artist community,” said Thundercat in a statement. “Ty’s a strong dude and when he heard the song he knew exactly what it should be. I was there when he recorded it. We talked about what it was, and he did what he felt was right to it, and I love what he did.”

All three musicians worked extensively with Mac Miller, but Thundercat had a special connection with the Pittsburgh rapper. Thundercat was a producer on all of Miller’s studio albums and was also scheduled to accompany him on tour.

It Is What It Is will be Thundercat’s fourth full-length studio release. The record, preceded by singles “Black Qualls” and “Dragonball Durag,” will be out on April 3rd.
