Google has unveiled its annual Year in Search List, which covers trending topics from several spheres of public life, including the music industry. Shakira was crowned as the most Googled musician of the year, while “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion was the most searched lyrics of 2020.

Shakira owes her success to her co-headlining spot at this year’s Super Bowl LIV halftime show. Around 103 million people tuned in to watch her perform alongside Jennifer Lopez, and the show led to many epic moments and viral memes that had people searching her name.

August Alsina, Adele, Doja Cat, and Grimes also made it to the top five, partly due to their music, and partly due to the personal drama going on in their life.

When it comes to the most-searched lyrics of the year, the smash hit “WAP” unsurprisingly topped the list. It was followed by Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” and Eminem’s “Godzilla”, featuring Juice Wrld.

Hip-hop songs were obviously leading the way, but we noticed another major trend. Several TikTok hits also made it to the top 10, including Jasmine Collins’ “This is for Rachel”, Conan Gray’s “Heather”, and Arizona Zervas’ “Roxanne”.
