Taylor Swift has always been full of surprise, but she really outdid herself this year. After sending shock waves through the music industry with her surprise album Folklore this summer, she surprised us by dropping its “sister record” Evermore just five months later.

Just like Folklore, Swift’s latest studio album was announced only a few hours before it hit the shelves. In a series of social media posts, the singer explained she “just couldn’t stop writing songs” because she “loved the escapism” of Folklore and wanted to explore it further, instead of treating albums as “one-off eras”, as she did in the past.

Swift wrote Evermore alongside Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, and Justin Vernon, and also gave songwriting credit to her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, under the alias William Bowery. This album also includes collaborations with Haim and The National.

Swift promoted the release of Evermore by dropping the lead single “Willow” this Friday, together with the rest of the album. The story of the magical music video ties in with her previous music video for “Cardigan”, both of which she directed herself.
