Queen guitarist Brian May combined two of his biggest passions – music and astronomy – in his first solo single in 20 years called New Horizons. This song is his personal tribute to NASA’s historic flypast of Ultima Thule and he described it as an “anthem to the human endeavor.”

His video provides a great summary of a flight path of the ongoing NASA New Horizons mission, and May’s involvement is no coincidence. Queen guitarist just happens to have a doctorate in astrophysics and he served as science team collaborator during this historic mission.

May said this project energized him in a new way and he just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to write a theme for Ultima Thule, which could be played when New Horizons probe reaches its destination.

“It will be by far the most distant object we have ever seen at close quarters, through the images which the space craft will beam back to earth. To me, it epitomizes the human spirit’s unceasing desire to understand the universe we inhabit,” explained May.
