After seventeen weeks spent at the top of the charts, this breakout hit earned the title of the longest-running no. 1 single in the history of Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Old Town Road” previously shared the record with “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, but this country-trap song managed to outrank them both.
Lil Nas X was head over heels after his debut single broke this major record. He celebrated his accomplishment in an emotional emoji-filled Instagram post and described his incredible journey to the top of the charts.
“Did I know it would become the longest-running number 1 song of all time? NO!‼ But I am so thankful that this blessing has been placed upon me. This song has changed my life and the way I see the world around me in less than a year,” the rapper wrote in the post.
