This year’s Beijing Music Festival will see a unique experience for the audience as the composer Max Richter is set to perform SLEEP atop the great wall of China.

SLEEP is an 8 hours’ composition and the audience is encouraged to sleep during the show on the beds supplied by the production.

The show will take place on a portion of the wall close to the city called the “Water Pass.” It will begin on October 4 at 10 p.m. and will conclude at 6 a.m. the following day.

Richter will play the piano and will be accompanied by soprano Grace Davidson and a string quintet from the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.

In his announcement of the show, Richter said that “Performing SLEEP at such an iconic location is a very special opportunity at BMF. This concert is a huge undertaking—physically, mentally and logistically—but we can’t wait to do it. It is sure to be a night to remember.”
