Avicii’s family have announced that the late DJ’s final music will be released on a posthumous album.

The news of Avicii’s untimely death was made public on April 20 last year. According to his family, Tim Bergling’s was working on new music before he died and was “close to completing a new album.” They also said that: “he left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music.”

As a tribute to Avicii, his family decided to allow producer Carl Funk to go through his recordings and finish the album so it can be shared with the world.

According to The New York Times, who have spoken directly with Funk, the upcoming album “is not a posthumous collection of musical leftovers. Instead, it concentrates on songs the artist was far into writing and producing during the last three months of his life, songs which, his friends say, he very much wanted released.

“Together, the sounds and sentiments they offer represent a cohesive and striking leap ahead for a musician already known as one of the most impactful innovators in electronic pop of the last decade.”

Tim will be released in June this year.
