Our favorite Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer is back, and their latest music video is their darkest one yet. “Easier” takes inspiration from some of our favorite bands from the ‘80s and ‘90s, but still features the band’s classic poppy sound.

The music video for this somber tune sees the members of 5 Seconds of Summer performing their new anthem about a toxic relationship in a sinister environment. They are shown in blue and red-lit rooms, trying to escape a series of dark scenarios.

The band’s latest single was inspired by several dark synth-heavy groups, including Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears and Nine Inch Nails. Lead vocalist Luke Hemmings described it as their most confident song to date.

“Visually and sonically it feels like we took what we uncovered about ourselves as a band on the last album and honed in on that sound and aura. I truly believe that ‘Easier’ is the beginning of the best era for 5SOS,” said Hemmings in a statement.
