ZZ Top are back with a new project. American rockers recently announced that they are developing a new rock musical, which is set to feature the band’s biggest hits. The musical will be titled Sharp Dressed Man and is scheduled to premiere in 2020 in Las Vegas.

Michael Gruber and Jason Gastwirth of Caesars Entertainment will develop the musical, while ZZ Top members – Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard – will serve as the show’s executive producers alongside their longtime manager Carl Stubner. Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins (Grease Live!) will write the book for Sharp Dressed Man.

“We’re excited about this fantastic project and look forward to hearing our music in a new innovative context,” said Gibbons in a statement. “Fans have often told us that we’ve provided the soundtrack to their lives, and this is very much in line with that kind of enthusiastic thinking.”

The band also shared a synopsis for the show as part of the announcement: “Sharp Dressed Man is an outrageous, bawdy musical romp about a Lone Star auto mechanic who becomes a modern-day Robin Hood, stealing hearts — and car parts — with the help of his merry band of beer drinkers and hell raisers.”

ZZ Top’s focus in recent years was on tours rather than studio work. The band released their latest album La Futura in 2012, while also sharing a live album Tonite at Midnight: Live Greatest Hits from Around the World back in 2016.
