After making an appearance at Warren Haynes’ 30th Christmas Jam in Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday, Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl found himself stuck in the city due to heavy snowfall. Instead of sulking, however, Grohl decided to do another surprise show on Sunday with Warren Haynes and his band Gov’t Mule.

In front of the audience at Asheville’s Orange Peel, Dave Grohl performed his 23-minute instrumental single alongside his band, before being joined by Haynes for several covers including Led Zeppelin’s “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and then Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels.”

The highlight of the evening, however, came when they decided to play “All Apologies,” a song by Grohl’s former band Nirvana.

“Warren said, ‘Do you want to do “All Apologies”? That used to be thin ice and delicate ground for a long time, for good reason. That’s something that had to be handled gently,” – Grohl told The Rolling Stone magazine. “When he mentioned that song, my initial reaction was, ‘I can’t do that. I shouldn’t do that.’ But then I think about the people that the song means so much to and has been a part of their lives — that joy and love should be shared. And then, as we were playing it, the audience starts to sing along, and I’m crying my eyes out onstage trying to keep it together — what a beautiful moment. And who am I to keep people from that beautiful moment?”
