Twenty One Pilots recently teased their new era with several cryptic posts on social media, and they finally made things official! The duo’s new album Clancy is hitting the shelves this May and they teased its release with the lead single “Overcompensate”.

Twenty One Pilots dropped several hints that they’re working on a new project before officially announcing Clancy, ranging from letters sent to their fans to billboards and posters featuring their new logo. After weeks of speculations, they finally confirmed their seventh studio album will be released on May 17, and it was worth waiting for!

Clancy will be a true love letter to the duo’s passionate fans who have been following their journey for years. It’s conceived as a final chapter in the story they started telling with their 2015 album Blurryface and later continued exploring with their 2018 album Trench.

This announcement comes shortly after Twenty One Pilots dropped a teaser that features frontman Tyler Joseph saying, “I am trapped, stuck in a cycle I have never been able to break,” before announcing, “I am returning to Trench. I am Clancy,” at the end of the video.

They dropped more Trench references in “Overcompensate”, the lead single from their upcoming album. This song opens with the words “Welcome back to Trench” and interpolates lyrics from the song “Bandito”.
