Tinashe spent years trying to make her mark, and she’s finally getting credit where credit is due! She found viral fame with her latest single “Nasty”, which just made history as her first solo song to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 90.
“Nasty” was released on April 12, ahead of Tinashe’s performance at Coachella. It didn’t take it long to go viral, and its lyrics inspired the viral “match my freak” meme, in addition to over 300,000 videos on TikTok.
Almost two months later, “Nasty” finally entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 90. It’s Tinashe’s first solo song to do so and fifth overall, while her debut single “2 On” ft. ScHoolboy Q remains her highest-charting song at No. 24.
Tinashe discussed the viral success of “Nasty” in a recent interview with Time and said it feels good to see her hard work finally pay off after all these years, especially as an independent artist.
“Having this social media push is really big for an artist like me because I’m not on a major label, and I don’t have the same level of exposure to playlists, to radio, to these other things… All it will take is one viral moment that gets the conversation going,” she told Time.
