Rihanna really kept us waiting for her ninth studio album, and its release date is still not on the horizon. She recently dropped some hints about new music, and said she’s “starting over” the work because she’s still figuring it out and “rediscovering things.”
Rihanna recently launched a new brand Fenty Hair, and joked about the long wait for her next studio album during a promo event. She told the audience, “This is probably the longest I’ve ever taken to create something… No, I lied, that’s R9.”
She later discussed her next album with Entrainment Tonight and said it’s taking her long to make it happen because she sees music as the process of discovery.
“I have been working on the album for so long that I put all that stuff aside, and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio… I wanna listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective, and then see what still applies and what I’m still in love with,” she explained.
Rihanna hasn’t released a studio album since Anti in 2016, but she dropped several collaborations and singles in the meantime, including the Oscar-nominated “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
