The MTV nominations have been announced and the ceremony will take place on August 26 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. If you didn’t catch the nominations, you can view the full list here.

The MTV awards are broken down into many categories containing many talented artists. We’d like to give shout outs to Lil Nas X, Cardi B and Anderson .Paak for the hip hop and R&B categories, but these are the artist we have down for the main categories.

Video of the Year

As much as we loved the bright and bold “You Need To Calm Down” from Taylor Swift, there is a clear winner for us. Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next” references just about every filmed we loved as teens and has broken multiple YouTube records.

Artist of the Year

Billie Eilish came out of nowhere with her phenomenal debut album earlier this year. She has since received praise from major stars (including Sir Elton John) and smashed it at Glastonbury last month. It would be great to see her gain recognition for the stir she has been causing in the music industry.

Song of the Year

This is a tough one. As we’re down for Ari winning video of the year, we’re going to have to go with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” Feel free to disagree in the comments.

Best Collaboration

Lady Gaga already has her fair share of award wins this year, topping it off with an Academy Award. Still, her collaboration with Bradley Cooper for “Shallow” is a clear winner in this category.

Push Artist of the Year

We continuously refer to Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You as one of the top albums of 2019. It would be amazing to see her win this category, although it is surprising that she was not nominated for Artist of the Year as well.
