When Oasis played their MTV Unplugged show back in 1996, vocalist Liam Gallagher decided not to take part in the gig due to “a sore throat.” However, Gallagher will have the opportunity to make redemption as a solo artist, as he is scheduled to perform a show under iconic MTV Unplugged label on August 3rd in Hull.

Gallagher’s show will be taped by MTV and will broadcast on television on September 23rd.

“I’m honored to be performing at the legendary showcase that is MTV Unplugged,” – Gallagher wrote on social media announcing the gig. “I’d love it if you could join us as it’s sure to be a biblical evening.”

Liam Gallagher is expected to play a mix of his solo tracks and Oasis classics during the show, while also premiering some of the songs from his upcoming second studio album Why Me? Why Not. The record is scheduled to be released on September 20th with Gallagher previously sharing album’s first two singles “Shockwave” and “The River” back in June.

MTV Unplugged debuted back in 1989 and features music artists playing shows in intimate venues using acoustic instruments. The series was made famous by acts like Eric Clapton, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, whose Unplugged shows were released as live albums and achieved both commercial and critical success. Clapton’s MTV Unplugged album, released in 1992, sold 26 million copies worldwide to date and remains the best-selling live album in music history.
