The Black Keys recently decided to share the secrets of becoming a successful rock band with the rest of the world, and it turns out things are pretty simple. You just have to have expensive gear and natural talent, and you are good to go.

You might be familiar with MasterClass, an online platform where renowned figures from the world of music, acting, and writing, teach online courses from their area of expertise. And while The Black Keys didn’t engage in such activities just yet, they did team up with Funny or Die to create a hilarious MasterClass parody video.

“Every song on a record is trying to accomplish something,” – the group’s singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach shares at the beginning of the clip. “That song, in particular, was trying to trying to get me a new pool.”

Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney then proceed on to share some other secrets of the trade with the viewers.

“You have to be inspired by what’s around you,” – says Auerbach.”I wrote that song while I was eating caviar with Michael Jordan in Paris.”

Carney, on the other hand, gives insight into some interesting drumming techniques: “A very interesting time signature is 4/7. Couldn’t tell you much about it beyond that, but it is very interesting.”

The Black Keys ends this helpful clip with the best advice of them all: “After this course, you’ll be able to write music like the pros. Unless you’re not naturally gifted like us. Then we can’t really help you.”
