There aren’t many achievements in the music industry that come close to headlining the Super Bowl halftime show and only the greatest performers can say they had the honor of doing so. The Weeknd will soon join their ranks as the headliner at the Super Bowl LV.

In an official release announcing his involvement, The Weeknd said he’s “humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage.” The Super Bowl LV is scheduled for  February 7th, 2021, and the halftime show will be produced by DPS with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers.

The Weeknd’s Super Bowl gig comes after another benchmark year for the Canadian superstar. His latest album After Hours spent several weeks atop the Billboard 200 and produced two no. 1 singles with “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights”.

In addition to finding commercial success, After Hours scored many award nominations, and “Blinding Lights” even won the video of the year award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The Weeknd is currently in the running for eight awards at the upcoming American Music Awards, including artist of the year.
