Sunny Day Real Estate made good on their word and shared a new song on Friday. After teasing the track for several days on social media, the emo group released “Novum Vetus,” their first new song in a decade.

“Novum Vetus” was accompanied by a music video that shows an artist doing a sketch of a boat. The boat goes through various stages, sailing the seas and battling monsters before getting stranded on the shore. You can hear the track and check out the video below.

As it turns out, “Novum Vetus” isn’t actually all that new. Sunny Day Real Estate first started working on the song during recording sessions for their 1998 album How It Feels to Be Something On. The track was then shelved until recently when the band decided to get back in the studio and finish it.

Sunny Day Real Estate, which reunited in 2022 after an eight-year hiatus, has a few more exciting news in store for its fans. The group re-recorded their debut Diary live in the studio and will be sharing those recordings as a special release titled Diary – Live at London Bridge Studio, which will arrive on May 3. The band will also embark on a U.S. tour in order to celebrate Diary’s 30th anniversary.
