The latest iteration of ska punk legends Sublime will cease to exist in 2024. The band’s frontman, Rome Ramirez, announced his intention to quit the band after wrapping up live shows scheduled for the next year.

Sublime was formed in 1988 by singer/songwriter Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh. The group recorded three studio albums and disbanded in 1996 after Nowell passed away.

Wilson and Gaugh decided to reform Sublime with Ramirez, a life-long fan of the band, in 2008. The project was later renamed Sublime with Rome after Nowell’s estate refused to allow the use of the original name.

Sublime with Rome eventually released three studio albums and presented an extended play, Tangerine Skies, back in November.

According to Ramirez, he now plans to focus on producing solo music.

“After almost two remarkable decades, I am announcing my departure from Sublime with Rome at the close of 2024. The upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect on countless incredible memories together!” shared Ramirez in a statement posted on Instagram.

Ramirez’s announcement comes one week after Wilson and Gaugh performed live with Jakob Nowell, Bradley Nowell’s son, at a benefit show. It is unclear whether the trio has plans for further projects or if this was just a one-off thing.
