Most songwriters would immediately jump on the opportunity for a superstar like Rihanna to record one of their songs. But not English singer/songwriter Jess Glynne.

In a recent interview with Daily Mail, Glynne spoke about her visit to Los Angeles, California, in early 2022 and a meeting she had with Jay Brown, co-founder of music and entertainment powerhouse Roc Nation. During the meeting, Brown told her that he really liked her song “Promise Me”, which she penned alongside producer Greg Kurstin, but wanted Rihanna to record it.

“I said, ‘No, you’re not sending it to Rihanna.’ I mean, it was the biggest compliment, but I was, ‘It’s my song, and I’m an artist, too,’” Glynne shared with the media outlet.

It turned out that Glynne’s refusal to give up her song didn’t have any effect on her relationship with Brown. Shortly after, the 34-year-old singer ended up signing a record deal with Roc Nation and is set to release her third studio album at some point in 2024.

Jess Glynne already shared three singles from the upcoming studio effort: “Silly Me”, “What Do You Do?”, and “Friend of Mine”. Her previous two albums, 2015’s I Cry When I Laugh and 2018’s Always In Between, both topped the UK Charts.
