Nicki Minaj created a lot of buzz for Pink Friday 2, and she’s finally reaping the fruits of her labor. The rapper’s latest album soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, becoming her third leader and setting several milestones along the way.
Pink Friday 2 hit No. 1 with 228,000 equivalent album units earned during its first week on the chart. It’s her third album to top the Billboard 200 following the success of her debut album Pink Friday and its follow-up Pink Friday: Reloaded, making her the only female rapper to top the chart three times.
Pink Friday 2 also earned 129,000 SEA units, equaling 169.87 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 22 songs, earning Minaj her largest streaming week ever. Pure album sales comprise 92,000 equivalent album units, while TEA units comprise 7,000.
Pink Friday 2 also had the largest week for a female rap album of the 2020s and the largest for a female R&B/hip-hop album this year. With 25,000 vinyl copies sold, this album made history as the best-selling rap album by a woman in a single week.
Pink Friday 2 was released on December 8, and it was preceded by the lead single “Super Freaky Girl”, which became Minaj’s first solo single to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
