Mark Morton recently presented his new solo project Ether, which came as a five-track EP. The extended play featured Morton’s original songs as well as an intriguing cover of Pearl Jam’s classic “Black.” Now the Lamb Of God guitarist also decided to treat the fans with a music video made for the song.

Morton covered “Black” with vocalist Mark Morales, known for his work with American heavy metal band Sons of Texas. Hear the track and watch the video below.

“The early 90s was such an important and vibrant time for rock music in general, and I feel like “Black” is one of the great songs from that era,” said Morton in a statement published alongside the clip. “Our approach in covering it was to present a super stripped-down version, sticking to the essence of the song.  It’s got a very lonely feel to it and Mark Morales delivered an absolutely incredible vocal performance.”

Mark Morton debut solo album, titled Anesthetic, was released in early 2019. The release was well-received by critics and fans, although it didn’t make a commercial splash. Morton collaborated with several artists on the record including, Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix, Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy, and the late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington.

Anesthetic was followed by Ether, which dropped on 17th January. According to Morton, the EP was inspired by acoustic sets he recently played and supposed to reflect his “more mellow vibe.”
