Lizzo’s empowering self-love anthem “Truth Hurts” is one of the songs we all had on repeat this year, but it wasn’t such a huge success when it came out in 2017. The famous singer recently revealed she contemplated giving up music after the release of this sleeper hit.

Lizzo discussed her road to stardom in a recent interview with People Magazine, and admitted she was in a really dark place after the release of her hit single.

“The day I released ‘Truth Hurts” was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had ever in my career. I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares,’” she said.

Fortunately, she had people in her life who had full faith in her and encouraged her to keep going. Two years later, her third studio album Cuz I Love You reintroduced Lizzo’s music to the world and put “Truth Hurts” back on the map. This song eventually managed to reach no. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart two years after its initial release.
