Post Malone is back with his first single of 2023. Malone’s new track “Chemical” arrived on Friday and sees the rapper departing from his signature style by embracing a pop-leaning vibe.

The song lyrics tell a story about the ups and downs of a relationship that seems to be nearing the end but never actually gets there. But even the somber elements can easily go unnoticed due to an uplifting beat that gives the track a more optimistic note.

“Chemical” came with a music video directed by Alfred Marroquin that focuses on Malone as he shuffles between different backgrounds during a photoshoot.

The new single is Post Malone’s first new music since he released his fourth studio effort, Twelve Carat Toothache, in June 2022. The album was a success with critics and the audience but failed to top the US Billboard 200 charts like his previous two records.

The rapper is currently set to embark on a series of concerts in Europe before returning to the U.S. for a show at the 2023 BottleRock Napa Valley festival.

Malone recently also focused on his acting career. He has a voice role in the animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and is set to appear alongside Jack Black in the upcoming Christmas flick Dear Santa.
