Lauryn Hill Releases First Single in Five Years

The queen of rap and hip hop is back at it with her first solo in five years, “Guarding the Gates.”

The single will be featured in the upcoming film Queen & Slim.

Lauryn Hill’s last release was “Black Rage” in 2014, a song after Michael Brown’s tragic shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. Prior to that, she hadn’t produced many songs since her Grammy award-winning debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Her top singles include “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Ex-Factor,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “Everything is Everything.”

Hill has continued touring and she has made guest appearances including in the 2019 Pusha-T single “Coming Home.”
