Kylie Minogue made a glorious comeback last year with “Padam Padam”, but she came very close to never performing this song. Producer Lostboy recently revealed this viral hit was almost performed by Rita Ora before the Australian pop sensation agreed to come on board.

Lostboy recalled co-writing “Padam Padam” with Ina Wroldsen in early 2022 in a recent interview with The Sun and revealed that the label wasn’t sure if Minogue was the right fit for this song.

“There were maybe four or five months of us sitting on it, then I sent it to their label, and someone suggested to me, ‘Kylie would kill this.’ They were unsure and there was a moment when Rita was going to cut it and it was worming around a few artists on that label,” said Lostboy.

He praised Minogue’s take, saying he was surprised by how confident she was that she could make the song her own, while also putting a modern twist on it.

“Padam Padam” was released in May last year as a lead single from Minogue’s last studio album Tension. It became a true viral phenomenon on social media, hit the top ten in several countries around the world, and scored a Grammy nod for the best pop dance recording.
