Nicki Minaj and Kim Petras have given us their candidate for the song of the summer with “Alone”, and the music video for this track is finally here. The highly-anticipated visual is one nostalgic affair, and it pays homage to the iconic disco classics that Petras grew up with.

In addition to sampling Alice Deejay’s Eurodance bop “Better Off Alone”, the visual for this song also pays homage to classic music videos by Eric Prydz, Alex Gaudino, and Fedde Le Grand. Petras switches through several elaborate outfits throughout the video before rocking matching, all-black latex ensembles alongside Minaj.

Petras dreamt about collaborating with the hip-hop star for years, and said it still feels unreal hearing her rap, “It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras.” Filming this music video by her side and seeing her go into full superstar mode was an unforgettable experience for the rising German star.

“She just turns [the superstar mode] on so effortlessly and it’s amazing to watch, and she was so nice to me and the dancers and everyone and was just really inspiring to see and to watch, and she was super encouraging and we just had a blast, so it was the best thing ever,” Petras told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
