It’s been five years since Kendrick Lamar graced us with a new studio album, but with Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers was worth the wait. It easily hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, scoring the largest week for any album released this year.

Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers soared to No. 1 with 295,500 equivalent album units earned, including 258,500 SEA units, 35,500 in album sales, and 1,500 TEA units. Lamar’s latest studio album breaks the record for the largest week of 2022, previously held by Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, with 274,000 units earned just last week.

Lamar announced the release of Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers less than a month before it hit the shelves on May 13. Singles “N95” and “Silent Hill” followed its release, while the rest of the album features a long list of collaborators, including Taylour Paige, Summer Walker, and Kodak Black.

Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers is Lamar’s first studio album in five years, and the fourth to top the Billboard 200 chart. He previously reached No. 1 with To Pimp a Butterfly and Damn, in addition to topping the charts with his compilation album Untitled Unmastered.
