Jorja Smith recently celebrated the first anniversary of her debut studio album Lost & Found, and she came up with a creative way to mark the occasion. The young British singer shared a tender visual for the beloved track, Goodbyes.
The music video for this emotional tune was directed by Rashid Babiker, and it shows Smith singing her song while the fluorescent background colors shift behind her.
She wrote Goodbyes when she was 16, and dedicated it to her friend who lost someone important and never had a chance to say goodbye. “I wrote this song for her because she was really upset because she never messaged him back. I was trying to be like, ‘Look, you can’t always say goodbye to someone. You can’t look at the world like people are always going to go,’” said the singer while discussing this song with Genius.
In addition to releasing a video for Goodbyes, Jorja Smith also marked the anniversary of her album with a sweet post on Instagram and used this opportunity to thank everyone who was by her side along the way.
“I’ve grown so much as a person since then, music is like little time capsules, brings nostalgia to me every time I sing. Thank you, everyone, who has been here for me and is supporting me, I love you forever and ever and ever. My music will always be here for you, whatever you’re going through,” wrote the 21-year-old singer.
