Here’s That Low-Key Banger Miley Cyrus Sings In “Black Mirror”

This week (June 5), the new season of Black Mirror dropped on Netflix, including the fabulous episode starring Miley Cyrus. Miley plays a happy-go-lucky pop sensation called Ashley O, only it soon becomes apparent that the star is being maliciously controlled by those around her.

It’s hard to ignore the similarities between Ashley O and Hannah Montana. Although Disney did not extract and abuse Miley’s consciousness, they did massively control Miley’s image, restricting the material she was allowed to release. As Hannah, Miley had to bare a grin and sing uplifting tunes that did not reflect her authentic self. It’s no wonder then that when she was released from her contract with Disney, she went a bit off the rails.

Likewise, Black Mirror’s Ashley O wears a wig, sings cheery songs and is restricted by a limiter in a blueprint of her consciousness. It’s hard to ignore the parallels between the sinister and technological dark world in Miley’s episode and her real-life starring as Hannah Montana.

Anyway, the episode was fantastic and Miley gave a wonderful performance. She also gave a super catchy rendition of Nine Inch Nail’s
Head Like a Hole which Charlie Brooker gave the pop treatment.

A Spotify version of the song is yet to be released, but we have found this spliced version on YouTube. Now we can finally get the low-key banger out our heads.
