Topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart is one of the biggest honors any artist can receive, and Halsey finally did it on her own. She got her first no. 1 single as a lead artist with the deeply personal track “Without Me.”

Halsey already topped the Billboard’s chart back in 2016, with “Closer,” her collaboration with Chainsmokers, but her success feels more tangible this time around. Without Me” is one of the most personal songs of her career, and that’s part of the reasons she was completely speechless after reading the good news.

“This song came out of a very lonely place and the past few weeks have showed me just how loved and supported i could be. Thank you guys for everything.  I don’t even know what to say,” wrote Halsey on Twitter.

“Without Me” was inspired by her on-again, off-again relationship with G-Eazy and it’s also the first song she’s ever written under her real name, Ashley Frangipane.

“Here I have this record where it’s just me. No wig, no colorful hair, no character, and it’s about my life and about my relationship that the world has watched so closely and so vehemently like in the past year and a half,” explained Halsey.
