After a four-year-long break, Grimes is finally ready to drop a brand-new album. Her fifth studio recording Miss Anthropocene will be rooted in important issues we’re all facing today, and it should come out some time this year.

Grimes announced the amazing news in a lengthy Instagram post, and explained its title is a play on words misanthrope and Anthropocene. The project will center around climate change, and the Canadian singer is hoping she’ll be able to make this issue more approachable.

“It’s a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change: A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world. She’s composed of Ivory and Oil,” she explained.

She also added that each of the songs on Miss Anthropocene will represent a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology.

Grimes described genre of her upcoming album as “ethereal nu metal”, but said she’ll probably drop a couple of more synth-based tracks in the meantime for fans who are missing her original sound.
