“GLOW” Gave Us an Unforgettable Song Montage with “Cities in Dust”

Alison Brie in "GLOW"

GLOW has been giving us one amazing soundtrack after another every season, but their latest is probably the best. It’s filled with several essential ‘80s bangers, but none of them makes a bigger impression than Siouxsie and the Banshees smash hit “Cities in Dust.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this song in one of our favorite movies and TV shows. It was previously featured in Atomic Blonde, 13 Reasons Why and The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, but it never fit the theme and the setting as masterfully as it did in GLOW.

“Cities in Dust” plays during a time-lapse where we watch Ruth taking off her wrestling makeup after another show in  Las Vegas. By the time the song is over, we find out that 200 days already passed, and she’s been repeating this routine over and over again while letting her dream of becoming an actress fade into oblivion.

It’s one of the most subtly heartbreaking moments of the entire season, and it cements Ruth’s journey moving forward. GLOW returned to Netflix on August 9th, and the soundtrack of the third season also features “Disorder” by Joy Division, “Gypsy” by Fleetwood Mac and “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush.
