In a rare interview with Vulture, Fiona Apple said that she means to release a new album next year. This will be only the fifth studio album in the singer-songwriter’s career with the last one, The Idler Wheel, released in 2012.

“I mean, I don’t know! It’s hard to say. I was supposed to be done a million years ago. And I go off and I take too long making stuff. I’m hoping for early 2020. I think,” Apple said.

The singer was asked how will the new album compare to her earlier work and said that it will probably be different. “It’s like, if you’ve been working out every day for a month and then nobody sees you, they see the difference, but if you’ve been doing it all the time, you don’t really see the difference. I can’t really know the growth or the evolution or anything like that in what I do, because I’m in the middle of it.”

Last year, Apple released a standalone track “I Can’t Wait to Meet You,” a song written by Solangie Jimenez and composed by Thomas Cabaniss. It was part of the album Hopes and Dreams: The Lullaby Project, featuring songs written by expecting mothers.
