After 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1, the reign of Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is over, and another leader has emerged. Eminem dethroned Swift atop the Billboard 200 chart with his latest album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
The Death of Slim Shady hit No. 1 with 281,000 units, including 164,500 SEA units (equaling 220.08 million on-demand official streams), 114,000 in album sales (all from digital downloads since the album wasn’t released in physical formats), and 2,500 TEA units.
This is the biggest sales week in 2024 for a rap album, and it marks Eminem’s 11th album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. He ties Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, and Kanye West for the fifth-most No. 1s on the Billboard 200, behind The Beatles with 19, Jay-Z and Taylor Swift with 14 each, and Drake with 13.
The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) is the first new album to occupy the No. 1 spot since the release of Swift’s Tortured Poets. This album spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1, setting several major records in its wake, but it slipped to the No. 4 spot this week. In addition to Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady, ENHYPEN’s Romance: Untold and Zach Bryan’s The Great American Bar Scene also made it to the top three on the Billboard 200 chart.
