Doja Cat has been dropping hints about her new sound for quite a while, and she finally gave us a taste of things to come. Her comeback single “Attention” is here, and it serves as a perfect introduction for her rap-infused fourth studio album.

The music video for Doja Cat’s new single was directed by Tanu Muino, and it sees the singer roaming the streets of Los Angeles. The video opens with the rapper driving the car, with a sea of fans and paparazzi around her, and she encounters many people wearing flesh-colored masks as the video progresses.

She opens the song with verses, “Baby, if you like it, just reach out and pet it / This one doesn’t bite, it doesn’t get aggressive”, and goes on to address many of her ups and downs from the past few years, from missing The Weeknd’s tour to shaving off her head.

“Attention” serves as the lead single from Doja Cat’s upcoming fourth studio album, and she said it will be “predominantly rap” and abandon her previous pop-leaning sound.

“I’ll be announcing the real title soon. I’ve been reconnecting with the music that I was raised listening to; Erykah Badu, John Coltrane, Nineties hip hop…the music that influenced me as a kid. I think my new music will bring some of that inspiration forward,” the rapper told Rolling Stone.
