Dave Mustaine Regrets Touring So Much

It’s been almost two months since Megadeth’s frontman and creative force Dave Mustaine announced that he is battling throat cancer. While the 57-year-old thrash rocker is certainly no stranger to misfortune and bodily harm, it seems that this last piece of bad luck has gotten him re-evaluating some aspects of his life.

“I wish I could relive the years I lost on the road. Also, those long goodbyes,” he tweeted on his personal account on Thursday. The tweet also included a mid-’90s photograph of himself holding his son Justis on the background of what appears to be the Megadeth tour bus.

Curiously, this picture was probably taken during the 94-95 tour in support of Youthanasia, an album which contained the track “The Killing Road”. According to its lyrics, Mustaine was already well aware of how costly extended touring could get 25 years ago.

This behavior’s quite insane, but we do it for the fame, sings Mustaine just before breaking into the chorus: I lost my mind, I lost all my money, I lost my life to the Killing Road. He then concludes with the sentiment: There’s nothing special about the road, It’s just another haul, It’s just too damn long that’s all.

While Megadeth’s planned tour this year has been canceled due to Dave’s illness, the band is still expected to be involved in some capacity with their own brainchild, Megacruise, which will take place October 13-19.
