Late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell will get a statue in his hometown of Seattle. This was revealed by Cornell’s wife Vicky Cornell, who added that the statue will be erected August 29th at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture. The announcement came on Friday, July 20th, and coincides with what would’ve been Cornell’s 54th birthday.

Nick Marras will be responsible for creating a life-size bronze statue of Chris Cornell wearing “his signature boots, dog tag, and long locks.”

According to Vicky Cornell, this statue will be her family’s gift to “the tight-knit community that gave him his start.”

Plans to immortalize the late grunge rocker in form of a statue started taking shape in the summer of 2017. Wayne Toth was originally commissioned to make the statue.

“He is Seattle’s son,” said Vicky Cornell at the time, “and we will be bringing him home and honoring him, I hope, with all of you, your love and support.”

Chris Cornell was one of the most prominent figures of the 90’s music scene in Seattle. He was known as founder and vocalist of grunge bands Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, while also serving as a singer in rock supergroup Audioslave. He was recognized for his solo works as well.
