It’s been eight years since Blur’s last album saw the light of day and they’re finally gearing up for an epic comeback. The British band announced the release of their upcoming album The Ballad of Darren and teased their new sound with the lead single “The Narcissist”.

Blur is currently busy touring around Europe, but they’ve been working on some new music before hitting the road. Their new album The Ballad of Darren will hit the shelves on July 21, and it will feature a total of 10 songs, including the lead single “The Narcissist”.

The band discussed their latest album at a recent press conference in Colchester, with bassist Alex James saying it was “utter joy” to record it. The title song “The Ballad of Darren” was 25 years in the making, but the rest of the album came together fairly quickly.

“I think the most amazing thing is we managed to write a record, rehearse it and put a tune out two weeks after finishing it. And then put an album out so close to the whole thing. That’s how I kind of dreamt it should always be. Sometimes I have to wait years,” said the band’s frontman Damon Albarn.

The Ballad of Darren marks Blur’s first album since The Magic Whip in 2015, which became their sixth UK number-one album.
