American punk rock band Bikini Kill, credited for riot grrrl movement pioneers, have announced they are reuniting for a string of live shows in 2019. Singer Kathleen Hanna, drummer Tobi Vail and bassist Kathi Wilcox will be joined by guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle and are set to play live shows in Los Angeles and New York this spring. Original guitarist Billy Karren will not be a part of the reunion.

“Bikini Kill are thrilled to announce they will be regrouping to play shows in NY and LA this spring,” said the announcement posted on Bikini Kill’s official website. “They will perform with their iconic line-up of Kathleen Hanna on vocals, Tobi Vail on drums, and Kathi Wilcox on bass — along with guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle.”

These upcoming shows will be Bikini Kill’s first full performances since they disbanded in 1997. However, Hanna, Wilcox and Vail did stage one-off reunion in 2017, when they delivered a surprising performance of “Tammy Rae” at New York City’s The Kitchen.

Bikini Kill formed in 1990 in Olympia, Washington and managed to set themselves apart from other bands from that period thanks to their radical feminist lyrics and fiery performances. Between 1990 and 1997, they released two studio albums, Pussy Whipped and Reject All American, with both of them receiving positive reviews from the critics.
