Mariah Carey set several amazing records with her signature tune “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and she just managed to break another one. This timeless holiday song finally reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and it took it a record 25 years to get there.

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” was first released on October 29th, 1994. It didn’t chart on Billboard Hot 100 at the time since it wasn’t released commercially as a single. The rules changed a couple of years down the road, and Carey saw this song re-entering the charts every time the holiday season rolled around.

It still took her by surprise to see it finally reach the top after all this time, but it was a pretty good feeling since she celebrated the 25th anniversary of its release this year.

“This just feels so great because it’s been such a long time coming, and I never really expected it. Even when it went to No. 9 two years ago, and then No. 3, I was like, ‘This is incredible!’ But I was always just so thankful with the holiday chart, so thankful. This is just, like, mind-boggling,” Carey told Billboard.
